OK Dual Sport Maintenance Day

Today we had several riders show up at Gary Miller's workshop in Edmond to perform some in-depth maintenance on their mounts. Dominated by KLR's getting their "do-hickey" swapped, it looked like a Kawasaki service tech convention. "Endo" Connie even had her Sherpa there to change the oil, adjust brakes and grease the bearings. While it was hot, Gary's shop is situated with a north/south open door so a nice breeze, along with a couple of fans, kept the temps bearable. A few people on DRZ's showed up, but being the durable mount they are, not much maintenance was needed on them. The KLR's are quite durable except for this so-called "do-hicky" that always seems to break. We had one broken do-hickey this morning and one with a broken spring that would eventually break the "do-hickey".

All together there were six doohickys replaced five were broken and the one that was not broken did have the spring broken so it was only a matter of time before it would break also. We finished up just before the rain started. It was a long but good day and was fun watching everyone pitch in and help. Nate even came by for a visit on his DR350. Connie did alot of work mostly by herself, she is becoming quite the mechanic. Next time it will be everyone doing valve jobs so get your shims on order now or maybe do a group buy for a kit or two. The DRZ's can probably use a valve job also.
Well, if it had not been so doggone hot I would have pulled an old trick that my dad pulled on his life lone friend in Ringling about seventy years ago. trucked the bike from Admore to Ringling and than rode it the last block to his place.
I would have seemed to have come from Fort Worth to change my oil on the Dr350.
I thought about it, that way I could have finally have might some of you guys an gals, as I have been learking here for some time.
I hope to get up there and ride with you if it ever cools off!
